Raking In the Money with Pay Per Click - Cautiously

by Sylvia Cherry

So you have heard that you can make a lot of money using Pay Per Click (PPC) to get people to your website. Well, for starters, did you know that this type of advertising was originated by Overture? The internet was beginning to be the easiest and most convenient way to shop. So advertising was going to hit an all time high because of the competition.
Well, before you begin, you must decide which company you will use to do your PPC campaign. Yahoo and Google are two that can be considered. Yahoo will allow you to pay in advance, therefore, letting you know exactly what you will be spending. Google, on the other hand, charge you in the arrears. You can set a budget as to how much you will spend monthly or daily. You only pay when a visitor clicks on your advertisement.
Once you set a budget, you need to stick with it. If you don't, you will find yourself spending more than you expected. With Google, if you don't pay attention to what you are spending, you will find that your credit card has been charged more than what you foresaw. By setting a maximum amount to spend each month, Google will stop your ads once you have reached that limit.
With Google, you can use two URLs. The first one is the one that will be your home page and it will be seen. The second one is not seen and it is the one that sends the visitor to that particular URL.
When you start a Google ad campaign, you choose keywords that you think visitors will search for. You should put your keywords in the title and description of the ad. You should start with words that you think are less popular, words that fewer people are using. You will then bid only enough that will get your ad in the top 5 - 7 positions. It's not always important that you be in the top position because your ad is seen on the right side as well. By having your ad on the right side, you can save a lot of money.
With PPC advertising, keywords and keyword phrases are used in searches to determine what ad will show up in the search. When someone put in a keyword or keyword phrase for search criteria, the search engine will give the results on the right side. That is where the ads are listed. You want to have your ads listed in the top 5- 7 positions here.
To be successful in PPC, you need to continue to learn different techniques and to continually check your Click through Rate and Positioning. When needed, make changes that will benefit your campaign.
