Internet Marketing Gurus - How to Find One that Really Works

by Aaron Parnes

Almost from the advent of the internet, there have been internet marketing gurus prowling for prey. Today, there are hundreds of so-called experts willing to teach you their proven system on how to make money from the internet. The methods they use to attract customers vary, either by using traditional advertising such as TV ads, or by using email marketing and other forms of online promotions.
When deciding on starting an online business, one is often tempted to buy into their pitch and spend the money on their systems. The question then arises, how does one find a guru that is actually worth something, and what price should one pay without getting ripped off?
After having tried numerous systems, attended various seminars, and listened to countless teleconferences, we have devised a way for one to discover for themselves a guru that should work for them.
First, narrow your list down to the guru that most likely fills your need. For example, if you are selling information products, find one that specializes in that field. If you have more of a product oriented business, look for one that has a course specifically for those kinds of markets. Then, follow our directions to sniff out if the guru is worth spending money on.
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
1. Sign up for their bait: Usually there is some freebie or bait that they use to lure in their prospects. It can be a free newsletter, an email course, or a teleseminar. READ or LISTEN to every word, and implement whatever you can.
2. Ignore the hype: DON'T get sucked in at this point. Ignore the constant sales pitches that are being blasted at you. Actually, if there is too much pressure to buy, chances are the system is worthless. A good marketer will teach 80% of the time and sell for 20%.
3. Does their free stuff work? You should be able to see a marked improvement by using their free information correctly. If so, then perhaps your improvement will increase dramatically by paying for their full course. If you don't see any change at all, and you are doing everything to the fullest, then move along to someone else. A good trick is to learn from their own sales letters or squeeze pages and see if they work for you as well.
4. Read Testimonials: Most "experts" will have dozens of testimonials in full display. Read them carefully. Make sure that these people have actually used this expert's methods to reach their goals. If they have displayed their URLs, check out their sites. If they are making money, you should be able to tell by sniffing around. Try emailing some of them asking if they are still satisfied. Often, testimonials are gathered up through the use of contests, where there is an incentive for them to make up a good story. By asking them directly you can get the real story.
5. Does it speak to you? Everyone has their own personal preferences and tastes. Some prefer lots of noise and glitz, while others may choose a more subdued style. If the methods taught and used are not the kind you prefer, then don't be hesitant to look elsewhere.
Finding a guru can pay off for you. The trick is to choose one that fits your particular needs, and is one that you can utilize to build your business and profit from it.
