Blogging has taken the world by storm.
According to Technorati, there are 112 million blogs worldwide and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. Their data also suggests that there are 175,000 new blogs created every day, and that there are over 1.6 million posts per day or over 18 updates per second.
If you are blogging, and you are a business blog then you need to pay special attention to how you blog and what you blog about. Here are 6 tips that will help you get the most out of your blog, your blogging and at the same time contribute to the blogosphere and build your brand and reputation.
Tip #1 - When you are blogging, write as if you are writing a book - not a diary. You are not writing random thoughts to your business blog, each post is geared towards marketing yourself, your products and your services.
Tip #2 - As you make each blog entry PROMOTE it! If you are capturing e-mail addresses then alert your subscriber base when you post a new entry to your blog.
Tip #3 - Your blog should link to other like minded blogs. As the other blog gets visitors from your site, the site owner will wonder where the visitors are coming from - when they see it is your site they will be inclined to link back to you.
Tip #4 - Comment on other bloggers sites. If they are in the same marketplace as you are, and there is interesting information on their blog COMMENT on the posts! Although it may not result in a SE finding their way to your site (due to the NOFOLLOW tag) your post will at least contain a link back to your website and people DO READ comments.
Tip #5 - Involve your commentators. Engage them, make them feel welcome and appreciate their feedback. Don't just approve the comment and forget about them. People that comment means that the are paying attention to you. Would you ignore a guest that you've invited over for dinner? No, you would not..
Tip #6 - Be BOLD! Add a little SIZZLE to your posts! Don't be scared to ruffle feathers - even when someone torches you they are probably going to link to your site. At the same time, don't be contraversial for the sake of it.
Tip #6 - Make it easy for people to comment. Do you force people to register before they can post comments on your blog?. Do you make it easy for people to comment on your blog? If you're scared of spam, there are many Wordpress plugins out there to deal with spam.
