Google Optimization

by Paul Giles

In mathematical terms, a "googol" is a number 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google, known to be the world's most powerful search engine, play on this term to reflect the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web. See, even though few people know what a "googol" is, everyone is familiar with and uses Google.
In our busy modern age, Google offers a universe of information organized in an accessible and effective way. Such is the popularity of the search engine, that more often than not, if we want to search for something on the internet we "Google it".
70% of UK internet searches now come from Google
Indeed, in recent years, search engine usage has become increasingly dominated by Google. Over 70% of UK internet searches now come from Google, a fact that has not escaped the savvy business man. Companies now realise that one of the most effective ways of marketing a product or service is via internet search engines. If the creation of the internet shaped modern day commerce, then the future of marketing is also on the web. Unquestionably, if you own a website and are looking to promote it, getting a good spot on Google can be extremely profitable.
As an outcome of this cyber boom, Google optimisation has become an ever more important marketing tool. To understand why, it is crucial to be aware of exactly how Google works.
Google Search Algorithm
Google has a system for ranking web pages, which will determine what page of a Google search each website will appear on. Because most users who browse and look for information only read the first or second page of the search engine result, businesses with a higher PageRank are easier to find.
Now, to recap, as we have determined, when it comes to internet marketing, if you want to make money, you need to have a good deal of website traffic. And if you want a more visitors to your website, it is immensely helpful to be ranked high on Google, that is, appear on the first pages of a search.
PageRank Guidelines
Some of the guidelines that determine PageRank on Google have to do with the content, design and technical quality of each website as well as external links. It is said that in marketing, content is king, and Google holds true to this principle. In other words, when trying to optimize your place within Google's ranking universe, it is important to remember that success will be largely determined by who is linking to you and who you are linking to. Even cyberspace has hierarchies.
In short, the growing popularity for search engine optimisation is an obvious consequence of the increasingly crowded nature of the internet. Limited space makes for a fierce battle between companies and their competitors in a quest for reaching top spots on the web.
